Welcome to Wayne
Wayne is a beautiful, affluent, sought after town on the Main Line offering a direct commute to Philadelphia via the train, well-rated public schools, and a historic district providing a taste of urban amenities. The walkable Downtown Historic District boasts the Anthony Wayne movie theater, the Wayne Hotel, and a multitude of restaurants, bars, cafes and stores. Residents enjoy visiting Chanticleer Garden which was called “America’s most inspiring garden” by Garden Design Magazine. The community is home to the Valley Forge Military Academy and College as well as the Wayne Art Center.
Between 1864 and 1870, James Henry Askin bought land and built his estate, Louella, named after his two daughters, Louisa and Ella Askin. For a time the town was known as Louella then eventually the train station was renamed after General Anthony Wayne and later the town.
Why We Love It...
Out of town visitors have the option of staying at the Wayne Hotel. The website explains, “Anchored by its position on the National Register of Historic Places, and once advertised as the only transient hotel between Philadelphia and Lancaster, the Wayne Hotel is an established landmark in the heart of Philadelphia’s western Main Line suburbs.”
To experience curated nature visit Chanticleer Garden. The garden’s website explains that “Today's Chanticleer is a colorful, contemporary garden within an historic setting. Come discover why London's Financial Times calls us "planted to perfection"
In addition to offering summer camp, the Wayne Art Center hosts classes for kids and adults to explore the arts & culinary arts.
